Station Lane Sitting-out Area

The earliest Hung Hom Police Station was built in 1872, and the street where it was located was consequently named Station Street. Station Street was then renamed Taku Street when the police station was relocated. Only the nearby side street Station Lane retained its name. In 1873, the communities of the Hung Hom Three Districts (Hung Hom, Hok Yuen Kok and To Kwa Wan) jointly established a Kwun Yam Temple at Station Lane, adjacent to the police station. A public office, a school and a library were later established next to the temple. Station Lane has since become a community centre that encompasses religion, discussion and education. The Station Lane Sitting-out Area is located at the junction on the west end of Station Lane and Gillies Avenue South, within the triangular area framed by the Fat Kwong Street flyover and Chatham Road North ramp, looking across the street at Hung Hom Kai Fong Association. Several large and lush royal poincianas, tung trees and albizzias can be seen along the edge of the sitting-out area. Pebble paths and fitness facilities are also available for nearby elderly neighbourhoods.
