Heng Lam Street Sitting-out Area
Before the 1970s, Lok Fu was ‘Lo Fu Ngam (Tiger Rock) Resettlement Area’. Since the 1950s, the Hong Kong Buddhist Association has been initiating several fundraising efforts to build Buddhist hospitals for the increasing poor and sick people in the society. The government granted land in the resettlement area for the hospital in 1966, named the street Heng Lam Street and set up a bus terminal next to the hospital. After the completion of Lok Fu Estate and Lok Fu Place and the opening of the Lok Fu MTR Station in 1984, the bus terminal was also moved to its current location, and the original site was rebuilt as Heng Lam Street Sitting-out Area. The sitting-out area is a rectangular site with rounded corners surrounded by flower beds. A large poinciana tree is planted on the side near Union Road, providing shade for the bus stop beneath. The park also has several pavilions. These large structures and a circular elevated platform at the centre become the focus of the sitting-out area.
