Mui Wo Ferry Pier Road Sitting-out Area
In 1985, Mui Wo Cooked Food Market was prepared for construction at the northern waterfront corner of Mui Wo Ferry Pier and started to set up temporary cooked food stalls, which was officially opened alongside the sitting-out area in 1988. The sitting-out area covers about 466 square metres. Centred on a small fan-shaped plaza, nearly 70% of the site are occupied by flower beds planted with lawns and two Lagerstroemia indica. Due to the lack of trees with large canopies and shade facilities, the sitting-out area is rarely used during daytime. In contrast, the boundary of the sitting-out area near the waterfront, which is connected to the cooked food market and the bicycle parking lot with a rain shelter, has become a popular resting place for passers-by and diners, and also offers a view of Silvermine Bay. With the gradual implementation of the CEDD’s "Mui Wo Facelift Project", the Mui Wo Cooked Food Market, together with this sitting-out area, bus stops and piers, will be demolished and redeveloped into a waterfront destination with integrated municipal, tourism and transportation facilities.
